A Different Kind of Scholarship
Since establishing the TCTA Scholarship Program in 2010, the Texas Classroom Teachers Association has made every effort to honor the wishes of the program’s benefactors, Charles and Phyllis Gottlieb.
When establishing the scholarship criteria, Phyllis Gottlieb specified that it be educators who identify and nominate students for the scholarships, and that the students chosen be those who have the potential and desire to succeed in higher education but who would not likely have the opportunity to do so without assistance.
Partnerships for Children
In 2012, the TCTA Scholarship Program began a three-year agreement with Partnerships for Children, a nonprofit organization that provides critical resources to abused and neglected children. Through the agreement, a TCTA scholarship will be granted each year to one student chosen by Partnerships for Children.
About the Awards
TCTA scholarships may be awarded in amounts up to $5,000 per year for tuition and required fees. They assist students pursuing courses of study leading to recognized degrees at accredited two- or four-year colleges, community colleges or career/technical schools. Recipients may apply for continued assistance based on satisfaction of specific academic criteria and availability of funds.
High school-level teachers or counselors must nominate students for the TCTA Scholarship.
