Jayden Ecker
Temple ISD
Texas A&M-Corpus Christi

“As a third-generation prospective teacher, you might think that teaching is in my blood. Well, since I was adopted at birth, I prefer to say that teaching is in my heart,” wrote Ecker in her original scholarship application.

Ecker is using her $500 TCTA scholarship to continue pursuing an education degree at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. Her scholarship was renewed for the first time in 2013-14.

"I am grateful to have been awarded $500 in TCTA scholarship aid last spring," she wrote in her renewal application. "I am trying to graduate in three years instead of four. That is exactly why I am also attending the summer school sessions that are offered while working at HEB through the summer."

“Jayden has not taken the easy path to reach the prize of high school graduation,” wrote TCTA member and Temple ISD teacher Dee Teakell, who nominated Ecker for her original scholarship. “She has prepared herself to reach her goal of attending a college to become a teacher. … Jayden wishes to touch the lives and futures of generations to come.”
