2012 Garland ISD graduate Jessica Santibanez is using her $1,000 TCTA scholarship to pursue a double major in accounting and finance from the University of Texas at Dallas. Her scholarship was renewed for 2013-14 and 2014-15.

"The TCTA Scholarship has helped me in a tremendous way," she wrote in her renewal application. "I have gotten involved with various organizations that have opened great opportunities for me. I will be the first to graduate from a university in my family. This is my ultimate goal."

Naaman Forest High School teacher Krista Rascoe nominated Santibanez for her original TCTA scholarship. “Jessica has balanced a school and work career to help her family make ends meet,” she wrote in her nomination.

“Many students her age would have given up on their education to go in to the work force … not Jessica. … Her maturity and attention to detail and deadlines at her age caught my attention, for as a result of her need to juggle a difficult schedule, she possesses a work ethic that far surpasses her fellow classmates.”
