Niasha Resheal Hobbs, a 2016 graduate of North Garland High School, plans to use her scholarship to attend the University of Texas at Arlington, where she plans to study criminal justice before a career as a correctional officer.

“During sophomore year of high school, I gave birth to my daughter, Neveah. At the time, I didn’t know how I would be able to continue doing well in school, but I knew it was something I had to do, not just for me, but for her. She motivated me to do even better, and now I am firmly on the path to success.”

Nominated by her teacher, Asha Phillips, Hobbs aims to make a better life for herself and her daughter. “Ms. Hobbs is a very driven student. She does not make excuses and works extremely hard. If Ms. Hobbs can overcome becoming a parent at a young age, then she can and will succeed in higher education.”

Her scholarship was renewed for 2017-18 and 2018-19.
