Olusola Babatunde, a 2017 graduate of Garland High School in Garland ISD, will use his $3,000 TCTA scholarship to attend Texas A&M University in College Station and plans to study mechanical engineering. His scholarship was renewed for $5,000 in the 2018-19 school year.

"Ever since I discovered my passion for engineering through Academic Decathlon, my dream has always been to become an industrial design engineer so I can design energy efficient products that produce minimal harm to the environment," Babatunde wrote in his scholarship application. "I want to live in a world where the environment doesn't need protecting."

"Olusola is one of the most motivated, hardworking students I have taught," said his AP chemistry teacher John West. "He always has a great attitude and loves coming to school each day. He also strives to earn the privilege of education."
